I've been using 300gsm weight papers. I'm still experimenting with them at the moment, but I mostly use watercolour papers with little or no texture, or papers for print presses. These can be used for acrylics, a lot of people use them.
300gsm is good because you don't get any buckling, or have to stretch the paper like with watercolour washes.
On my men piece I used acrylic canvas paper, but it takes a lot more to lay down colours, and doesn't have as nice a texture.
